Getting started
What is fono.club?
A music companion. For a song or artist it shows who made it: the writers, producers, studios and labels, with every fact cited. It also picks music for you. It is not a streaming service.
Where do I start?
Search for a song you know, open it and follow any name in its credits. Or open For you, pick a few artists and swipe.
Do I need an account?
No. Reading, searching, exploring and For you (with previews and swipes) are open. An account keeps what For you learned on any device, saves songs, keeps a history and connects Last.fm or ListenBrainz.
Can I play whole songs here?
You hear 30-second previews. On a song's page, Spotify's own player can play the whole song if you use Spotify.
Using it
What can I do with it?
Find out who made a song you love, follow a producer or session musician from record to record, see what happened in music on this day, get a mix that fits your mood, or ask the map a question. The next answers show how.
How do I find who is behind a song?
Open the song. The credits list the writers, producers, studio and label, and “By the same writers and producers” shows what else they made. Tap any name to follow it.
How do I follow one musician across records?
Open a name from a song's credits, then open Explore. It draws the songs and releases that person is credited on. Switch the map to Timeline to read the career from left to right.
What happened in music on this day?
Open the Feed and choose “On this day”. It lists anniversaries of releases and other dated facts.
Can I get a mix without an account?
Yes. Open For you, pick a few artists, hear 30 seconds of each suggestion and swipe. You can also type the moment, like “coding” or “friends over”, and get a mix to fit it.
How do I explore a genre?
Pick a genre under Browse on the home page to see its songs. Then open Explore to see how its artists, labels and places connect.
Where did a song's sample come from?
Open the song and look for “Versions, samples and covers”. It lists what the song samples, covers or remixes, when that credit is on record.
Can I ask a question in plain words?
Yes. In Explore, switch to Ask and type it. Every answer comes with the sources it used.
Is there a keyboard shortcut?
Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) to open the command palette. It finds pages, songs and artists. Press ? to see every shortcut.
Your data and account
Can anyone pay to be in my picks?
No. There are no ads and no paid placement. No label, artist or brand can buy a spot.
How does For you pick songs?
From the artists you pick, the songs you swipe, and (if you connect them) what you play, through Last.fm or ListenBrainz: artists listeners pair with yours, songs that share a producer, label or studio, new releases near your taste. Every song says why it is there.
What happens when I connect Last.fm or ListenBrainz?
fono reads your recent plays and top artists to tune For you. Your listening history stays private. It is never used as a source for facts.
Can I download my data or delete my account?
Yes. Settings has Export my data, which gives you a JSON file, and Delete account.
Sources and accuracy
Where do the facts come from?
From open, licensed data sources such as MusicBrainz, Wikidata and Wikipedia. Every fact carries the source name, a link, the quote it rests on and its licence, and you can open all of them from the page.
How do you keep the facts accurate?
Every fact on a page is an approved claim that points to its sources. If something is wrong, tell us through Ask fono (in the footer, the account menu and the song page menu) and a reviewer checks it against the source.
Is anything written by AI?
Not on song and artist pages. Facts and connections come from sources, and the insights beside them (such as who worked with whom most often) are counted from those facts, with the number of sources shown.
Why does a song show only a few facts?
fono shows what approved sources say, and nothing else. Songs with less show fewer facts and insights, and more are added as the catalogue grows.
Why can't I find a song or artist?
The catalogue keeps growing. Artists that people search for and we lack are added from MusicBrainz data.
How up to date is it?
New data is read, checked and published on a schedule, from every few minutes to once a day. How it works lists what runs and when.
Still curious?
How it works shows where the data comes from and when it refreshes. About says who it is for and what we stand by.
